Choosing the Perfect Boat for Your Holiday

Choosing the Perfect Boat for Your Holiday

Are you thinking about chartering a boat? Whether you love to fish or want to cruise the beautiful blue water, there are several different types of boats to choose from. Each boat type generally falls into three categories: cruising boats, fishing boats, and water sports boats. When choosing the right boat, you’ll need to consider:

  • What you’re going to use it for (for example fishing, island hopping, diving)
  • How much time will you spend on the water, does it require overnight?
  • How many people will be on the boat?

Once you’ve determined what type of boat you are after, you are ready to choose the perfect boat for you. Ready to learn about the different types of boats? Let’s read on!

  1. Cabin Cruiser

Cabin cruiser boats generally come fully-equipped for spending extended periods of time aboard, including sleeping, dining, and bathroom accommodations. A large cabin cruiser will have enough space for private bedrooms and often can sleep up to a family of 5!

  1. Sailing – Gulet Yacht

This is a hybrid yacht propelled with engine, wind and sails. This is as classic as it could be. It usually has a great outdoor space that makes it perfect for relaxing but also has a decent space indoor to shade you when the sun gets a bit too intense.

  1. Catamaran Yacht

Catamaran is a type of yacht with two hulls (pontoons) often made of fiberglass that can be used in shallow waters. Because it has 2 hulls, it is more stable on the water compared to mono-hull boats.

  1. Sportfish or Sport Fishing Yacht

A yacht used for fishing with a large cockpit, storage space, and the ability to handle rougher seas. These can also be referred to as Flybridge Sportfish or Sportfish Express and are built for longer durations out on the water.

  1. Pinisi (Or often spelled Phinisi)

Pinisi is a type of rigging (the configuration of masts, sails and ropes lines) of Indonesian sailing vessels. A pinisi carries seven to eight sails on two masts, arranged like a gaff-ketch with what is called ‘standing gaffs’  it means unlike most Western ships using such a rig, the two main sails are not opened by raising the spars they are attached to, but the sails are ‘pulled out’ like curtains along the gaffs which are fixed at around the centre of the masts. Pinisi is recognized as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO.
